We build software
that's made to be lived in.
Armored Armadillo is a small, independent studio that designs, engineers, and operates digital products. We work the way we'd want anyone building for us to work — slowly enough to think, carefully enough to mean it.
Most software is rushed into the world and then patched forever. We start from the opposite premise: that the things people use every day deserve to be made with the patience of something built to last.
A small team with strong opinions.
Armored Armadillo exists because we believe the best digital products come from a tight group of people who care about the whole — not a relay race of handoffs between teams who never meet. Design and engineering live under one roof here. The people who imagine a thing are the same people who build it, ship it, and stand behind it.
We're deliberately independent. No outside agenda decides what we make or how we make it, which means we get to optimize for the only thing that has ever mattered to us: work we're genuinely proud to put our name on. That independence shows up in the details — in interfaces that respect your attention, in systems that stay fast as they grow, and in the quiet satisfaction of something that simply works.
We take on a small number of efforts at a time and give each one our full attention. We'd rather do less and do it exceptionally than spread ourselves thin across things we can't be proud of.
Design, engineering, and the long tail of operating it.
We work end to end — from the first shape of an idea to a product running dependably in the real world. Three things we do, and keep doing long after launch:
Product design
Turning a fuzzy idea into something clear enough to build and pleasant enough to use.
- Research, flows, and information architecture
- Interface and interaction design
- Prototypes in the real medium, not slideware
Engineering
Building it for real — fast, secure, and durable enough to keep growing.
- Web and mobile application development
- APIs, data models, and back-end systems
- Performance, accessibility, and reliability
Run & support
Keeping it healthy after launch — because shipping is the start, not the finish.
- Hosting, monitoring, and incident response
- Ongoing improvement and maintenance
- Security updates and dependency care
The principles we don't compromise on.
Craft over speed
We'd rather ship the right thing a week later than the wrong thing today. Quality is not a phase at the end — it's the standard at every step.
Own the whole stack
We design, build, and operate what we make, end to end. Owning the full picture is the only way to be truly accountable for the experience.
Respect the person
The people who use what we build deserve software that is fast, honest, and careful with their attention, their time, and their trust.
Build for the long term
We make decisions we can still defend years from now. Durable foundations beat clever shortcuts every single time.
Stay independent
Our roadmap answers to the work, not to anyone else's quarter. That freedom is the whole point of doing this on our own terms.
Sweat the details
The difference between good and great hides in a thousand small choices. We chase every one of them, even the ones nobody will ever notice.
How an engagement runs.
Every project is different, but the shape of how we work tends to be the same. No mystery, no theatre — just a clear path from first conversation to something running in the world.
Talk
We start with a conversation to understand the problem, the people, and what "done well" would actually mean.
Shape
We frame the work, agree on scope and a realistic plan, and put something tangible in front of you early.
Build
We design and engineer in tight loops, sharing progress often so there are no surprises at the end.
Run
We launch, then stay — operating, watching, and improving the thing long after it goes live.
Design and engineering, inseparable.
We treat design and engineering as a single discipline. A beautiful idea that can't be built well isn't finished, and a well-built thing that feels wrong to use isn't either. The two have to be solved together.
Our process is unglamorous on purpose: understand the problem deeply, make something real early, live with it, and refine relentlessly until it feels inevitable. We prototype in the medium people will actually use, so the work is honest from the first day.
And we operate what we ship. We hold ourselves to the reliability, performance, and care we'd demand as users — because, in the end, that's exactly what we are.
A few things people ask.
What kind of work do you take on?
Digital products and the systems behind them — interfaces people use every day and the software that makes them work. We're most useful when quality, durability, and the long view actually matter.
How big is the studio?
Deliberately small. We keep the team tight and the number of active projects low so each one gets real, undivided attention rather than a fraction of it.
Do you keep working after launch?
Yes — that's the point. We operate, monitor, and improve what we ship. Shipping is the start of the relationship, not the end of it.
How do we start?
Send us a note describing what you're trying to do. We read every message and reply personally, usually within a couple of business days.
Are you really independent?
Completely. We're self-directed, with no outside owner deciding our roadmap. That independence is exactly what lets us hold our standard.
What does an engagement look like?
Talk, shape, build, run. We agree on scope and a realistic plan up front, share progress in tight loops, and stay accountable through launch and beyond.
Let's talk.
Whether you have a project in mind, a question about the studio, or you simply want to say hello — we read every message and we'd genuinely like to hear from you. The best way to reach us is by email, and a real person will reply.
